You Can Walk the Walk, But Can You Talk the Walk?

Leadership

You always hear the phrase “talk the talk, walk the walk.” When we think of great business leaders, we often equate them with this phrase because it implies that someone who succeeds in business can match their everyday actions with the aspirations they have for the company. They don’t just talk about doing something, they take the right steps to make it happen.

Being a leader who is ready to make actions align with talk is important in being able to attain goals for your business. But another important part of building a sustainable leadership is to be able to “talk the walk.”

What does it mean to talk the walk? This simply means having the ability to put into words what makes your company stand out, why what you do matters, and how you will meet your goals. It is being able to compel your customers and your team with your message. Leaders who succeed not only think about their businesses in a different way, but they talk about it differently too.

By creating their own language for communicating the company’s methodology in service, strategy, and culture, it clarifies expectations for everyone inside the organization in order to be successful each day.

They  also  refer  to  this  as  a “vocabulary  of  competition,” notating  the  things  that  make their company stand out in the marketplace. It is created to help each member of their team, on every level, fully appreciate what it takes to give their best every day, to help their company shine.

Can you as a leader put into words what makes your company different from all the rest in your industry? How can you create a language that speaks to your team, sharing the important  message  you  need  to  share?  What  can  you  do  to  make  sure  you  talk  the walk?
