8 Questions to Ask Before Creating a Strategic Plan


A strategic plan is used to call out your business’s priorities and to help keep all team members on track to accomplish company goals. Before you create your own strategic plan, here are the things you need to ask:

1. What are the core values your company stands for?

Know what your core values are and make sure that everyone on your team knows those values as well.

2. What is your vision toward the future?

Have a clear picture of where you see the company going a year from now, 10 years, 20 years, etc.

3. What is your mission?

Determine what you need to do in order to achieve your vision for the company. What tasks need to be done? How are you going to do it?

4. What is the purpose of your company?

What is the reason you started this business? Being clear about your purpose can give you more insight into how to get it done.

5. What are our specific goals?

Select the goals that need to be accomplished over a specific time period in order to accomplish that vision for your company.

6. What skills and knowledge do we need in order to accomplish our goals?

What types of training or learning does your team need in order to complete the tasks on your list?

7. What habits do we need to develop?

Habits are what move us forward or keep us held back. Look at what types of habits the team needs to develop in order to ensure progress.

8. What activities do we need to do each day to make it happen?

Each task accomplished leads to achieving a long-term goal. What individual tasks need to be completed each day, each week, and each month in order to help reach that end goal?
