Every business owner has moments of uncertainty, of coming to a fork in the road. The times of not knowing what path to take, or even if they want to step onto the path at all.

There are so many businesses out there that try and fail. Some make it a few months, others a few years, before finally backing out. These businesses go day-to-day, crisis-to-crisis without taking time to be strategic in an entrepreneurial way.

These business owners often have made the mistake of not being clear in their minds on the three most important factors that keep a business going.

1. WHY?

First, why did they start doing what they’re doing? If a business owner is not sure why they decided to venture out on their own in the first place, it is hard to stay on track. There is a reason why, but sometimes that purpose gets lost along the way. Always remember the why and the purpose behind the business.

2. Where?

Second, where are they going with the business? As important as the why, a business owner needs to have a vision of where they see the business going. Do they see expansion? Will there be an online store? Do they just want to keep it small? Having at least a small picture of what the future holds for the business is an important part of being successful.

3. What?

Finally, they need to know what it is they are bringing to their customers. They might think all they are selling is a product, an insurance policy, a cleaning service, but there is more to it than that.

What a business is really selling to customers is emotion, security, peace of mind, and happiness.

Knowing these three important things helps to keep business owners on the right path to success.
